The Ecotope design team has been working on several projects in Alaska and getting quite a bit of local interest as a result. In Sitka Ecotope is working on renovations to the City library and the convention center, the two most significant public buildings in town. Renovations will lead to the buildings completely eliminating use of fuel oil and overall they will be 3 times as efficient as they were before. This focus on highly energy efficient buildings is significant for small towns in SE Alaska like Sitka since they pay a high price to import fuel oil and their local hydroelectric utilities are nearing capacity. During a recent trip to the Last Frontier Jon Heller was interviewed on KCAW Sitka, Raven Radio.
He later was the lunchtime keynote speaker at the 2014 AIA Alaska conference in Juneau.
