“Great example of sustainable living within preservation!”; “Most amazing multi-family building ever!” These were just two of the comments posted as part of the DJC’s Building of the Year contest. The Sunset Electric building won 38% of the vote to top the list of 10 of the most remarkable buildings of 2015.  Ecotope provided mechanical and plumbing design and energy efficiency and LEED consulting services for the project. An open-air interior courtyard lets natural light into all of the units and allows for passive cooling. A reverse-cycle chiller transfers latent heat from the air in the garage to the domestic hot-water supply. The building is  uses  43 percent less energy than an average U.S. apartment building, and received LEED platinum certification.
